Pregnancy Glow!

Today I took maternity pictures and actually got time to blog about it :) I know I have been terrible about blogging my sessions, but vow to get better as soon as I have my baby…in two more weeks! In the meantime, here are the maternity pictures I took of a dear friend and fellow mother-to-be. Thirty eight weeks pregnant never looked so beautiful!

Braden’s Three Year Old Portraits…

better late than never :) After a groin injury (while shooting portraits in Minnesota), I have been a kind of benched when it comes to taking pictures. I knew I needed to get Braden’s three year old pictures done, so I decided to give it a try on Wednesday. Ellaina had her first day of school, so it was just a Braden and Mommy day anyway. After giving hugs and kisses to Ellaina, Braden and I headed to the railroad tracks in downtown McKinney. He was quite playful and had so much fun on walking on the tracks. On our way home, we stopped by a brick wall I really liked and took a few more close up shots. He looks so grownup and handsome. My little Brad-man is looking more and more like Daddy :)

Father Son Moments on the Beach!

What is better than two year old pictures on the beach? Two year old pictures on the beach with Daddy! This session was such a blast. We had so much fun that my cheeks hurt from smiling behind the camera!

The Waves!

On a recent vacation to Crystal Beach (TX), I took a few portraits before putting my camera away to enjoy my sister-in-laws wedding renewal as a guest :-)

This one was a lot of fun and ended with the little guy getting a tiny bit wet :) Actually, they all got a tiny bit wet, but the little guy’s expressions were priceless!

I photographed these three brothers! They were so cute and all had such different personalities from one another. The youngest, Gus, was so adorable with his mom. I loved the way you could see his adoration for her in everything he did. Being a mother to a boy, it left me really tickled :)

I pride myself on capturing the personalities of children. Some of my favorite shots are the ones the kids don't even know I am taking. I enjoy documenting the sessions too, but with this session, you would have never known how it went down...or came up. The poor little guy ended up getting sick during the session. His mommy took one for the team and scooped him up, catching all his sickness in her shirt and arms. This isn't the first time...or the last time a kid has gotten sick during a session. Prior to moving to Texas, I worked about four years at a very busy children portraits studio. During the holidays, many parent's would bring sick kids in, to make sure they still got their Christmas picture done. The big difference here is that the little guy wasn't showing any signs of being sick. He was as playful as can be at the beginning of the session, which made for some cute pictures :)

Snow Angels!

It might have been only eleven degrees out, but this couple kept it fun and hot! This session was a wonderful way to start the New Year, while I was still home in Minnesota for the holidays. They were so cute and such troopers. Even willing to get a little snowy!

This was just one of my favorite family sessions from the holiday season. I am finally getting time to post some of them and had to start with this one. Every time I look at these pictures, I think of how much fun we had. This is such a great family and I loved the way they loved on each other!

This little doll baby had other ideas in mind the day we did pictures. Usually it is the toddlers who decide when and how we are going to do pictures, but not this time. We got some amazing pictures and wore both Lauren and Mommy out. I thought for sure we would be able to get this little angel sleeping for my last shot idea. How wrong I was :-) The plan was to get little Lauren sleeping and place her on the top shelf of her bookshelf house. I had it all planned out in my head, but Lauren had other ideas. Thankfully the backup idea worked too and looked just as adorable!

I know I have been terrible about blogging this Holiday season. Hopefully with my work slowing down, I will get a chance to blog about all the great sessions I had and post some of my favorites. In the meantime, I didn’t want to get any further behind so I decided to put up a couple of my little Minnesota cuties!We got the pleasure of spending this Christmas in Minnesota with family and friends. As if that isn’t special enough, yesterday I was blessed with the opportunity to photograph my good friends little kiddos. We spent some time with them this week and really had a blast, so I knew this session was going to be great and great FUN! It lived up to my expectations with some large personalities showing through :) Here are a few more of my favorites.

Mistletoe Market is TODAY!

The day has arrived! Today is my very first show! It has been a labor of love getting my booth ready, so I am praying for a good turn out. Choosing just 25 images proved to be harder than I thought. After I was done sorting and resorting, I ended up with somewhere around 60ish :) Since I am not going to be able to show them all today at the fair, I decided to show them all here :)

Also, I will be taking FREE Crazy Portraits today at the fair. Stop by for a silly portrait and get creative. My top ten favorites will be posted for everyone to vote on. My lovely bride and groom tie the knot in two more days and I am incredibly excited! Last week I met them at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel to take their engagement portraits in one of their gorgeous presidential suites. It was such a fun time and a great way to get to know the two of them. They are such an amazing couple!

I got an opportunity to take bridal portraits for my recent bride at the Mgroup Studio (within the Cotton mill). It was the perfect indoor location…especially since it was over 100 degrees outside. Sandra looked stunning in her dress. I love bridal portraits, especially when the bride is as fun as her! I cannot wait for their engagement pictures next week!

While in Minnesota last week, I got the opportunity to do some portraits for friends, family and previous Minnesota clients. It is such great fun getting to see everyone grow and change. It is also such a great blessing to be able to photograph the newest addition to Amanda’s family. Amanda has been a friend of mine since we were babies together, and now we are having babies :)

I have wanted to take portraits in the Cotton Mill, since I saw the magical place when I had maternity portraits there. Now after photographing there, it was exactly that…magical! My business keeps bringing me such wonderful blessings, opportunities and joy. A couple weeks ago was no exception. I had the opportunity to photograph bridal portraits for such a sweet bride! She brought a fun entourage with here, which made it even more enjoyable! Once again, there are too many to pick from, so I am bombarding my blog with an overwhelming amount :) Not a bad problem to have, right!?! Make sure to check them all out.

My Aunt Low called and arranged for me to photograph my Grandma and Grandpa J. She heard we were heading to visit them. I am so grateful she did arrange this and I got the honor to photograph my grandparents. It was adorable seeing how much in love they still are after all these years! What a great example they are of love and marriage.

Recently, I got the honor to photography a destination wedding in Mexico. It was the most amazing time and experience. While in Mexico I was able to take engagement portraits for Amanda & Dave! Before leaving for Mexico, I had an opportunity to photograph a Plano senior on the McKinney Square. It had been a little while since taking pictures on The Square. I almost forgot how much I LOVE doing pictures there. We had such a FUN time! Annabelle has such a sweet spirit and fantastic personality. The friendship between her and her mom was so endearing; I had to get a couple photos of them together :)

Well my sister-in-law Laura was so excited about the pictures I took at Adriatica, that we did some of her family too. Yes you heard that right her FAMILY! My brother-in-law Keith is not a big fan of pictures (to put it mildly). I haven't taken a family picture of the Barron's in the five years we have lived in Texas. Laura used to get him to participate because I was down on vacation and only for a short time. There was no "later" then, now there is, and five years LATER it happened :) I was so excited and surprised. It made my day...heck maybe even my year!!

I feel so blessed to get to do something so fun and special for a profession. I feel like a little kid every time I go to a session. What other kind of work do you get to play and interact with so many great people to capture their personalities. I LOVE it! This special session was with my little kiddos. They are always my greatest challenge :) I won't post the crying ones this time.

One of the best things about my profession is that I get to capture memories while I travel!

Two weeks ago I was able to squeeze in a couple portrait sessions while at my sister's house in Wisconsin. We headed out to Lake Michigan, which looked more like an ocean due to the white caps. It was such a beautiful setting and I had a terrific time taking pictures there! Here are some of my favorites!This little guy was so sweet and bashful. Another great family!

This is my sister's lovely family! My youngest nephew is not the biggest fan of the camera, but we got some great smiles while he was sitting with Mom!

During my recent trip to Minnesota my friend and old boss Dan saved me a bath prop. It is so fun! I thought I would try it out on my kids. It took a little bribing to get them to sit together :) There were a couple really cute ones with Ellaina's butt. However, with her turning three soon, I thought I better not put those out there :)

Wedding Day Photography Checklist

Choosing a photographer is only one big component of getting the portraits you desire to capture your magical day. A fantastic photographer can capture all your wedding memories and allow you to reminisce about that extraordinary day with just one glance. Whether you are looking for a more photojournalist (candid) style, a traditional (posed) style, or a combination of both, it is important you know what you are wanting photographed. This will ensure you at least receive all the basic wedding day portraits you wish for. I have attached a simple wedding day photography checklist. As a photographer, I use this list as a starting point for all my brides and grooms to work off of. I do many journalistic portraits that are not on this list, but the list allows the photographer to know exactly what “posed” portraits the couple is wanting. I recommend customizing this list to your specific wedding day needs. This is the best way to take any concern out of your wedding day portraits. Remember, it may be necessary to add and remove things from the list to make your wedding portfolio what you have been dreaming of.

Adriatica has become my new favorite place for outdoor portraits in McKinney! I did a couple sessions there this Fall, but discovered even more places to photograph by when my cousin was in town. Here are a few shots from my cousin's session. Ellaina insisted on joining one of the pictures...see if you can figure out which one...I'll give you a hint it was really windy :)

I am soooo excited!! A portrait I took is a STORE DISPLAY for ARCHIVER'S. We don't have them down here, but they are big up North. I could not be more happy! The last few weeks have been crazy busy for my business and this is just the icing on the cake!

With much loving pressure from my family and fans :) I am finally starting my Portraits by Kym Blog!! My business has been taking off and I wanted to share all my excitement with you all! I have been blessed with such a great opportunity to do something I LOVE! It is the best felling when I get to share the portraits with my customer for the first time. This blog will allow me to share that feeling, pride and passion with everyone!

A brief introductory of me :)

I am a mother of two who is deeply and truly in love with the people around me. I am blessed to share my passions with people through Portraits. I grew up in Maple Grove, Minnesota, married my true love and moved to McKinney, Texas. Quite the adventure! God has provided us with so much and allows me to spend my days loving up on my family, dancing with my daughter, singing and celebrating life with my family! I get the unique opportunity to see life happen thru the lens of a camera with my own company, Portraits by Kym. I established Portraits by Kym when I was living in Minnesota shooting weddings, seniors and other activities outside of the studio I was working for. I always dreamed of someday having my own studio, which has been amazing to see come true! I am incredibly passionate about photography and feel so blessed to get to do it for a living. On a personal note, I love anything chocolate, family, friends, laughter, song, and dance. These are the things life is about and I love living it!
